Fracture or Not Fracture?



Frontal wrist examinations of two different patients, A and B, who fell with pain in the wrist. Do both, neither or one of them have a fracture demonstrated, and, if so, which one?

Image A: There is an irregular lucency with jagged edges in the distal radius (red arrows). The epiphyseal plate (white arrow) has already closed and is sclerotic. This is a non-displaced fracture.

 

Image B: . The epiphyseal plate is closed in this patient as well (white arrow). The lucency overlying the distal radius, under careful examination, is seen to extend OUTSIDE of the bone into the soft tissues (green arrows). This is a skin fold that projects over the bone but is NOT a fracture.
